First let me say I am a frugal man. When it comes to books I recommend checking at your public library first. That being said some books are worth owning, especially if your 're always going back to them as a reference.

All the books are on Amazon.com. Amazon is in my opinion the best online retailer. They have good prices and unmatched customer service. I have used them for five years.

Diet , Health , and Exercise Recommendations

First is Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution , I have been on the Atkins diet for several years. I will soon add a web page documenting my atkins experience. Until then I will only say It worked quite well for me. It is a low carbohydrate diet for those of you not familiar with it. Recipe Calc is very helpful for monitoring your carbohydrate intake.

Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution

Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength , This is one of the best fitness books on the market. First, Mr. Phillips does promote his own products but it is only a minor detractor. This is not a fad diet, his advice is quite sound on both diet and exercise. The program entails small frequent meals with regular, intense exercise ( think "No Pain no Gain" ).

Next is Dr. Dean Ornish's Eat More, Weigh Less , I did lose weight on this diet. It is basically a very low fat vegetarian diet.

The Zone , this is another low carbohydrate diet plan. It does not reduce the carbohydrate levels as low as the Atkin's diet.

Beyond the 120 Year Diet , this is probably the most interesting "Diet Book" that I have ever read. The main idea behind this book is that a low calorie high nutrition diet can significantly extend your life. Don't scoff; many animal studies have backed up his claim. And based on these animal studies he projects that humans can achieve a 120 year life span.

I have not yet put myself on this diet ( yet ); I know it's going to take a lot of will power.
